Analysis of the match between West Ham United and Manchester United
Since Ruben Amorim took charge, inconsistency has almost become Manchester United’s “trademark.” The Red Devils can be brilliant in one match, only to disappoint immediately afterward, which explains why they have never won more than three consecutive games under the Portuguese tactician. This instability has forced fan Frank Ilett — who once vowed to cut his hair only if MU won five straight matches — to wait nearly 500 days without being able to fulfill his promise.
Not having a haircut since October 2024 has clearly become a psychological burden for Ilett. Recently, on social media, the fan even publicly thanked head coach Michael Carrick, who is expected to help MU complete a five-match winning streak so that he can finally break the “self-imposed curse.” With his hair now noticeably long after such a long wait, Ilett remains extremely confident in MU’s ability to defeat West Ham and finish the last five rounds with a perfect record.
That confidence is not unfounded when looking at MU’s transformation since Carrick returned to the Old Trafford dugout. The Red Devils are undergoing a clear revival in both mentality and playing style. Despite a punishing schedule, MU have beaten a series of strong opponents such as Manchester City (2-0), Arsenal (3-2), Fulham (3-2) and most recently Tottenham (2-0). These were all convincing victories, reflecting genuine progress rather than luck. Under Carrick, MU play with greater fluidity, speed and efficiency instead of the previous stagnation.
That resurgence has lifted MU into the Top 4 of the standings, while West Ham are struggling near the relegation zone and facing the threat of relegation. Compared to the Big Six opponents MU have recently overcome, the Hammers are clearly inferior in both quality and form. With West Ham languishing in 18th place, MU have a very bright chance of extending their winning run under Carrick.
